It took me over a year to work up the guts to read this book. And I find myself struggling to put in words how much this book has touched me. Here is another close call that we recommend. He gets bullied at school, lives alone with his sick mother and gets regular visits from a monster in the night. The book tackles a serious subject matter—cancer—in a way unlike anything I've ever encountered before. A Monster Calls has to be the most inventive book I've read this year.
